Ruth Whitman

                        
Ruth Evelyn Whitman, 95, of Wooster, died August 27, 2012, at the Wayne County Care Center. Ruth was born Jan. 10, 1917, in West Lebanon, the daughter of the late George and Hazel Cramer, and married Gene Whitman on June 30, 1943. He died in 2008. She had been a school teacher at Medina and Wayne County schools for over 30 years. She graduated from The College of Wooster in 1938 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. When she came to Wooster, she did additional course work at Ashland College in elementary education. She retired from Apple Creek School, where she taught third grade for 16 years. Ruth was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the Lydia Martha Circle, Wayne County Retired Teachers Association, Wayne County Historical Society, and Stark County Wilderness Center. She was a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and a volunteer for People to People Ministries. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara (Burton) Mullins of Apple Creek; sons, Richard (Valerie) Whitman of New Lebanon and Ronald (Sally) Whitman of Wooster; daughter-in-law, Cathy Whitman of Wooster; brother-in-law, W.C. Geiss of Homerville; grandchildren, Cody (Maggie) Whitman of California, Kyle Whitman and Matthew Whitman, both of Columbus, Kayla Whitman of Dayton, Mariah and Madison Whitman, both of Wooster, Mike (Lori) Mullins of Fredericksburg, and Michele (Ben) Berry of West Salem; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, and Nicholas Berry, and Alexis, Brenna, Olivia, and Madelyn Mullins; brother, John Cramer of West Lebanon; sister, Miriam Brown of North Canton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, John C. Whitman. Services will be held August 31, at 11 a.m., at Trinity United Church of Christ, Wooster, with Rev. Kevan Franklin officiating. Interment will be in Wooster Cemetery. Friends will be received August 30, from 6-8 p.m., at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, Wooster. Contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster 44691; or the Wayne County Care Center, 876 S. Geyers Chapel Rd., Wooster 44691. The family would like to thank the staff at Wayne County Care Center and Hospice for the wonderful care of their mom/grandmother.
