Sarah Eleanor Proper, of Millersburg passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland. Sarah was born August 12, 1958 in Millersburg to James L. and Leda (Miller) Crissey. She married Roger D. Proper Sr. March 12, 1988. He died March 29, 1998. Sarah was a graduate of West Holmes High School and Bowling Green State University where she majored in social work. She had previously worked at the Holmes County Department of Job and Family Services. Sarah was a member of the United Methodist Church of Millersburg, Millersburg FOE Auxiliary 2418, and the Holmes County Share-A-Christmas Committee. For many years Sarah taught American Red Cross swimming lessons at the James L. Crissey Memorial Swimming Pool. Sarah enjoyed spending time with, and playing cards with family and friends. She was an avid euchre player. Surviving is a daughter, Bess Opal Proper of Millersburg; stepchildren, Roger D. Proper Jr. of Millersburg and Michelle Y. (Todd) Doty of Nashville; grandsons, Camden and Carsen Doty; sisters, Ruth Crissey and Miriam (Mike) DeWitt of Millersburg; brothers, David Crissey of Millersburg and Dan (Lynn) Crissey of Homerville; and special nieces, Autumn, Kiana and Stephanie DeWitt. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the United Methodist Church of Millersburg with Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg. Friends called from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Holmes County Kidney Fund, P.O. Box 172, Berlin 44610 or to Holmes County Share-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 228, Millersburg 44654.
