Shirley L. Chumney, age 83 of Mineral City, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018, while in the care of Community Hospice.

A daughter of the late Walter and Ida Mae (Vogt) Miller, Shirley was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Trail, Ohio.

Shirley married the late Eugene “Gene” Chumney on Jan. 15, 1954, in St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg and enjoyed 61 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2015.

Shirley was a doting mother who adored her children and grandchildren. She also was a self-taught individual who enjoyed canning and tending to her flower gardens. She had a green thumb and was able to grow the most beautiful gardens in which she took great pride.

Shirley was the owner of American View Tours, a career that allowed her the opportunity to teach her tour guests about the Amish culture.

Shirley is survived by her children — LaVonne Debois, Kevin (Janet) Chumney, Tyronne Chumney, Lisa (Lanny) Rosenberry, Gloria (Ron) Lester and Shonda (Bob) Davis — and her step-son James (Patti) Williams.

Completing the family are her sister Gwendolyn Wendling, 19 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Edward Chumney, daughter Darla Dee Chumney Allen and her sister Donna Jean Lautenschleger.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6 from 1-4 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover and again one hour prior to services on Monday, May 7 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pastor Dan Legg will lead a service celebrating Shirley’s life on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Burial will follow in the Dover Burial Park. Following services, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the hospitality room of the Dover Geib Center.
