Thelma Collins obituary

                        
Thelma Viola Collins, 86, of Dennison, died Feb. 2, 2010, at her residence, following a period of declining health. A daughter of the late Matthew and Virginia Jackson, Thelma was born May 18, 1923, in Kings Mine, Guernsey County. She was a 1942 graduate of Lore City High School and furthered her education by attending Cambridge Business College. She proudly served her country during WWII as a member of the Army Air Corps from 1942-45. Having been stationed at Egland Field, Fla., she served as an office manager. As a homemaker, Thelma thrived as she would serve and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, working on crossword puzzles, and caring for her cats. Spending time out doors and enjoying nature walks was another of Thelma’s favorite pastimes. Surviving are children, Donna Russell of Dennison and Allen (Linda) Collins of Hinckley; brother, Edwin “Babe” Jackson of Cadiz; five grandchildren, Terry Schupbach, Jeff Russell, Michelle Russell, Shannon (John) Meek, and Brian (Abby) Collins; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Hunt, Miranda Hunt, Trevor Russell, Caleb Meek, and Erin Meek, and Magelynn Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Collins, whom she married in 1945; brothers, Arthur, Donald, Harold, Melvin, and Robert; and sister, Elverna English. Services were held Feb. 4, 2010, at the Linn-Hert-Geib chapel, with Thelma’s daughter-in-law, Linda Collins, officiating.
