Velma Wigton obituary

                        
Velma M. Wigton, 96, of Lakeville, died Feb. 20, 2010, at West View Manor, Wooster, following an extended illness. Velma was born August 9, 1913, in Richland County, to the late Jason and Ona Carpenter. She was a 14-year employee of Lakeville Elementary, retiring in 1980, and had worked as a beautician. She was a member of Lakeville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Lakeville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Lakeville Booster Club, and the West Holmes Booster Club. Surviving are sons, Ronald (Linda Sue) Wigton and Donald (Sandra) Wigton, both of Lakeville; daughter, Virginia (Dennis) Ogden of Wooster; seven grandchildren, Ronald D. Wigton Jr., Thomas (Sherry) Wigton, Jarrod (Jenni) Wigton, Angela (Christopher) Sparr, Stephanie (Daniel) Hiller, Erik Ogden, and Matthew Ogden; six great-grandchildren, Andrew and Trent Wigton, and Emily, Courtney, Kaylee, and Bradley Wigton; a great-great-grandchild, Gabriella Sparr; brothers, Richard Carpenter of Shelby and Robert Carpenter of Big Rapids, Mich.; and sisters, Mae Thompson of Mansfield, Juanita Naylor of Ashland, and Betty Miller of Lakeville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. “Dave” Wigton; brothers, Ernest, Carl, Weldon, Doyle, and Gerald Carpenter; and sisters, Viola Smith, Donna Knafflock, Berdella Richey, and Lillian Sweval. Services will be held Feb. 24, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with Rev. Randy Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Newkirk Cemetery, Wayne County.
