William D. “Dan” Jones

                        
William D. “Dan” Jones, 75, of Dover died Thursday, July 3, 2014 in Aultman Compassionate Care Center at Canton. His death was due to pancreatic cancer diagnosed just a few short weeks ago. Born Oct. 19, 1938 at Dover, he was a son of the late Bill and Ann Mravik (later Mange) Jones. Dan graduated from Dover High School in 1957, and attended both Bob Jones University and Malone College. He was employed as a shift supervisor for the former Union Camp Corporation at Dover, retiring after 28 years of service. Dan was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ at Dover; Tuscarawas Lodge 59 F. & A.M., also at Dover; New Philadelphia Lodge 177 F. & A.M.; McKinley Lodge 431 F. & A.M., Canton; St. Bernard Commandery 51, K.T., Dover; and Scottish Rite Valley of Canton. He also belonged to the Dover Lions Club and B.P.O.E. 510 of New Philadelphia. He enjoyed running, and was a member of the YMCA at Dover. Dan also liked playing pool, gardening – he worked for the former Endres Floral Co. as a youth, and listening to classical music. Many days Dan could be found at either Uncommon Grounds in Dover or The Daily Grind in New Philadelphia playing chess and helping to solve the world’s problems. Survivors include his wife, Charlene “Sherry” (Fox) Jones, whom he married March 14, 1970; his daughter, Anita Wright (Brian) of Massillon; his son, Paul Jones (Gail) of Akron; his grandchildren, Spencer and Keira Wright; and his nieces and cousins. Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, David Jones. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, Monday, July 7, from 6-8 p.m. Masonic rites will be conducted just prior to the calling hours at 5:45. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 8 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in St. John’s U.C.C. in Dover.
