Winifred Jean Reid

                        
Winifred Jean Reid (nee Hilty) passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 in Walnut Creek. Born in Findlay Nov. 20, 1930 to Sidney and MaeOla (Amstutz) Hilty, Jean will be missed by her husband Leslie Reid of Walnut Creek; two brothers, Donald of Alexandria, Va. and David of Flint Hill, Va.; two step-sons; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter in addition to several nieces, nephews, cousins and an extended family of loving friends. A nursing graduate of the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing, she was a distinguished 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force where she spent years as a flight nurse. Retiring with the rank of Colonel, Jean moved on to work with the American Red Cross in Cleveland where she served for 10 years in the public health field. Direct cremation will be followed by a memorial celebration service at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Walnut Creek Wednesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Behrendt and Rev. Richard Hoover officiating. Private family burial of ashes will take place at the Western Reserve Military Cemetery in Rittman. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
