This is just a sampling of the books that have been returned to the Orrville Public Library.

When the Orrville Public Library initially closed, its bookdrops remained open. Director Daphne Silchuk-Ashcraft emptied the bookdrops daily, and all items were placed in quarantine until staff members could once again be called back into the building.

One of the first tasks for staff was sorting the items into what the library owned and what was owned by other libraries. Items owned by the library were sanitized and placed back on the shelves while items owned by others were packed into boxes, awaiting return to the owning library.

The Orrville Public Library currently has limited service hours at its drive-up window: Monday and Thursday from 3-7 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 1-5 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The building itself is still closed to the public, but the library is working with local officials, the governor and the state library to open the building in phases in order to maintain the safety of patrons and staff.

There will be a Summer Reading Program for children, teens and adults. This will be an online version and is tentatively scheduled to begin on June 15. There also will be a similar paper version for those who do not wish to play online. Watch the library website and Facebook page for updates.

Requests for new materials can be made through the website at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or by calling the library at 330-683-1065. Phone service begins at 11 a.m. each day.

At this time materials are only available from the building and from the Wayne County Public Library System. State-wide delivery service has not yet returned, so items from other libraries are unable to be requested and shipped. Be aware when requesting an item from the Wayne County system that all items coming into the Orrville building will be placed in quarantine for a period of time. You will be notified when your items are ready to be picked up at the drive-up window.

Because there is not yet a state-wide delivery service, you may have items on your account that show “suspended.” These holds will stay on your account and should fill as more libraries open and delivery service resumes. Unfortunately there is not a specific date for when this will happen. It’s possible an item you’ve returned is still showing on your card. All items coming into the building are placed in quarantine for a period of time and are not handled by staff. No fines accrue during this time.

The Orrville Public Library wants to thank its loyal patrons for their patience during this unprecedented time. The library is doing its best to meet all safety guidelines so it can once again open the doors.
