Share-A-Christmas program raises $105,000
Letter to the Editor:
It was Dale Evans who said, “Christmas is love in action.” Tuscarawas County has definitely seen Christmas in such a light during the past several months through the Share-A-Christmas program.
In 2017, 900 families were recipients of help throughout the county. This was made possible by the generosity of individuals, churches, businesses and community organizations that worked together to provide the food, toys and clothing that were distributed to low-income families. Recipients were identified through an interview process that began in late October.
This year each family member received a $25 voucher to purchase clothing, shoes or boots. Each family who requested help also received a food basket, and toys were available for children age 12 and under.
The food and toys came mainly from donations gathered during area food or toy drives. These drives are held throughout the county at businesses, schools and churches. During the toy drives, a total of 70 bicycles were collected and distributed.
Through mid-December monetary donations totaled $105,000. Anyone still wishing to contribute can send their tax-deductible donation to Share-A-Christmas, 1458 Fifth St. NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
