Lots at stake when COW, Wittenberg clash
The College of Wooster men’s basketball team will face Wittenberg University on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. at Timken Gymnasium, the 130th all-time meeting between NCAA Division III’s winningest teams.
Wooster is riding an eight-game winning streak against its archrival, and neither team has ever won nine straight games. Wooster leads the all-time series 69-60. No team has ever claimed a 10-game lead in the rivalry’s all-time standings, which Wooster will be able to do with a win.
Nearly 40% of Wooster-Wittenberg games have been decided by five points or less, including 18 of the last 44 and 31 of the last 72. That does not even include the triple-overtime game on Feb. 12, 2005, won by Wooster 102-95. Since 1990 the average attendance for Wooster-Wittenberg games is 2,320, and the Scots, with students home on winter break, will count on community support to keep that number high.
Tickets for home men’s basketball games are $8 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and youth. College of Wooster faculty and staff are admitted free of charge. Wooster accepts cash or credit cards for ticket sales.
