Bevington, Burnett inducted into Ashland University Hall of Fame

                        
A pair of area athletes were among the seven members inducted into the Ashland University Hall of Fame. Lew Bevington from the class of 1968 was a football and wrestling star for the Eagles and Scott Burnett (Class of ‘95) excelled in track and field. Bevington was a defensive tackle and three-year starter. He earned all-conference honors in 1965. He was co-captain of the ‘67 Eagles that posted a 9-0-1 record. That team was ranked 12th in the country. “After my sophomore year, my tackling coach suggested I try wrestling,” Bevington said. “Wrestling really wasn’t my thing, but it sure helped me with football. I wrestled for two years.” After graduating, Bevington went on to spend 36 years working in public education. He coached football and wrestling at the high school level, and served as high school principal and superintendent. He retired in 2003. He and his wife Peg have four daughters and 10 grandchildren. “I’m really tickled. This is quite an honor,” Bevington said. Burnett was a five-time All-America in the shot put, competing at eight NCAA Division II national championship events. He was ranked among the top 50 indoor shot putters in the nation. He is currently the Dean of Students at Wooster High School. He has coached track and field at the high school level, His wife Susan Renee Keaton, is also an Ashland University graduate. Induction ceremonies were held Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Myers Convocation Center. This was the main event at the 25th Annual Ashland University Hall of Fame Induction and Athlete of the Year Recognition Banquet.
