Every year, millions of children charge onto the baseball diamond to take part in America’s favorite past time — baseball. In Tuscarawas County, one group of kids has been left out of the fun… until now. Bolivar Baseball/Softball Association recently announced that it is launching the Tuscarawas County Challenger Little League to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges to enjoy the game of baseball. Participants must be residents of Tuscarawas County who are ages 5-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in high school. Cost of registration is $60 and includes a full uniform. Candy sales are available to reduce the fees. The Challenger Division encourages the use of “buddies” to assist the Challenger players on the field. Whenever possible, buddies encourage the players to bat and make plays themselves, but are always nearby to help when needed. Registration for both players and buddies will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, at Tusky Valley Intermediate School (216 Park Ave, Bolivar) from 9 a.m. to noon. For information, contact Janine Garber at 330-874-4183 or thegarbers@veri zon.net. Information is also available online at www.eteamz.com/bbsa. The Challenger Division was established by Little League in 1989 to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges to enjoy the game of baseball.
