Fine pitching performances highlight diamond action

                        
The following are brief recaps of area youth baseball action from last week.

Little League

Berlin #1 Maroon 9, Millersburg #1 Red 4


Eric Mullet had a dominating pitching performance, striking out 11 without issuing a walk in leading Berlin Maroon past Millersburg Red in Little League action Sunday, May 23. Adam Grate worked a scoreless inning of relief.

Kyle Troyer and Jacob Kalman had two hits apiece and Mullet doubled to lead Berlin.

Holmesville 11, Nashville 1

Matthew Chrapowicki tossed a no-hitter at Nashville, walking three and hitting a batter. He struck out 12 batters in five innings as Holmesville rolled over Nashville.

At the plate for Holmesville, Evan Reidenbach was 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run and six RBI. Mitch Massaro was 2-for-4 with a double and pair of runs driven in. Chrapowicki was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Cody Duncan, Jacob Welker and Todd Gingerich each added two hits.



Farm A

Millersburg #1 Royal posted a pair of wins in Farm A action last week, topping Holmesville 7-4 and blanking Killbuck #2 11-0.



Hot Stove

West Holmes Silver 13, Orrville 3

Levi Jones tripled and singled, Devan DeHass added two hits and Will Kimbrell doubled to lead the Silver Knights past Orrville in a rain-shortened five-inning affair. Jordan Stutzman was the winning pitcher for West Holmes. The team improved to 3-0 on the season.

On Monday, May 24, West Holmes Silver bombed Triway 23-10. Buddy Beckett was the winning pitcher for the Silver Knights. Sam Young had three hits and Logan Gallion and Levi Jones added triples to help the team improve to 4-0.



West Holmes Gold 14, Smithville 1

West Holmes Gold struck first and blanked Smithville after the first inning, putting the game away with seven runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth Thursday, May 20, in Smithville.

Scott Troyer homered and doubled, and Clay Stutzman also went deep for the Gold Knights. Colton Landon blasted two doubles and a single, and Jayce Askew and Layne Perone each added two singles to lead the 13-hit attack of West Holmes. Josh Carsner, Dustin Neihaus and Hunter Akers all singled.



West Holmes Youth Softball

As the West Holmes Middle School girls softball team finished its first season with a 5-3 record, the summer league girls picked up right where they left off:

The 8-U girls scored a dominating win over Triway; the 10-U girls posted a 15-7 triumph over Northwestern 1; the 12-U team defeated Smithville 13-8; and the 14-U posted a mercy win over Orrville 12-2.
