Eighteen holes wasn’t enough to determine a winner at the 2011 Herm Cline Memorial Golf Tournament, held Saturday, June 11, at Fire Ridge Golf Course in Millersburg, as two of the 12 foursomes competing finished tied for the lead at 13-under, setting up an even-card playoff that went an extra nine holes. But in a fitting end, the foursome that included one of Cline’s grandsons, Drew Landon, came out on top as he, Mike Healy, Micah Roach and Glen Apple finally were crowned champions back on number 10. Herm Cline was the father of former West Holmes students Lisa, Jim, Mike, Kurt and Karen Cline and was a big supporter of all West Holmes High School sports. Jim Park, event organizer and current West Holmes varsity volleyball coach, estimated that the outing raised around $2,000, all of which will go to benefit the West Holmes Athletic Boosters. Speaking from Orlando, Fla., where he was coaching his 13-year-old traveling volleyball team at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Championships, Park said, “Considering the weather we’ve had this spring, I thought it was a great turnout. I’m really happy with the way things went.”
