Hiland’s Bille finishes golf season strong
Every high school golfer dreams of ending their career playing on the biggest stage, the state tournament.
For Hiland senior Camden Bille, that dream came true when he teed it up at NorthStar Golf Course Oct. 11-12 in the Division III state tournament.
Bille ended his career by fashioning a two-day score of 166 (82-84), good for a tie for 36th overall.
According to Hiland coach Austin Kaufman, Bille was right where he deserved to be in teeing off with the best golfers Div. III has to offer.
“Going into it, Cam really felt like he had a chance to finish in the top 10 and make All-Ohio,” Kaufman said of his senior. “I thought he hit the ball as well as I’ve ever seen him hit it, especially on day one.”
Kaufman said the struggles came on the lightning-fast greens, which caused plenty of issues for plenty of players throughout the weekend. He said a couple of triple bogeys proved to be costly on each day, with the final most difficult par-4 18th getting him both days.
That pushed Bille’s score six strokes higher than what he has been posting this season.
However, Kaufman said that is understandable considering the difficulty of the course combined with the slick putting surface.
“Camden had a great season, and he played really well,” Kaufman said. “He’s made such incredible progress in his game over the past four years. I’m so proud of what he’s accomplished. He’s given so much to the program and been a great teammate and leader for us.”
Kaufman’s crew posted another strong season, playing their best golf in higher-level tournaments against a lot of bigger Div. I schools that are among the best in the state.
Hiland continues to exhibit skills that have made the Hawks among the most recognized teams in the state over the past many years, and Kaufman said Bille is now an important part of that lore that continues to push kids to participate and play up to high expectations.
“We’re already preparing for next year,” Kaufman said. “I’m proud of Camden for his effort and leadership, and he can be proud of the way he finished off his career.”
