Jordan Stutzman, huge seventh inning spark Knights to victory over Tygers
Baseball sure can be a fun game when a guy is in the zone.
Jordan Stutzman has been locked in and red hot on the mound for the West Holmes Knights recently.
He stayed right in the zone Tuesday, May 6 when the Knights flashed some leather, wielded their sticks and cruised to a 13-1 victory over Mansfield Senior.
Stutzman sparkled in tossing a gem. The junior went five innings, allowing only the lone run. He struck out four and walked a hitter, and scattered seven hits.
The two teams went scoreless through the first two frames, before the Knights finally ignited for a trio of runs in the third to take a 3-0 advantage.
West Holmes got two more in the fourth to push the lead out to 5-0, and Stutzman seemed highly intent on making that lead stand up despite Mansfield Senior pushing their lone tally across in the bottom of the inning.
The game remained at 5-1 heading into the seventh inning, and the Knights completely blew the game open in the seventh by scoring seven runs.
The big blow came off the bat of senior Butch Baird, who drove an offering over the fence for a three-run home run.
West Holmes as a hole pounded the ball, hammering out a dozen hits. Baird had a pair of hits and produced three RBI, Troyer matched those numbers, producing three hits and three runs, Stutzman and Levi Jones both had a pair of hits, while Johnathan Clark and Layne Perone both had a pair of RBI and A.J. Race added a hit.
Scott Troyer came in to start the sixth inning in relief of Stutzman to finish off the Tygers, hurling two innings of one hit ball, striking out three to secure the victory.
