Brendan Lynch recorded a first for the West Holmes tennis team on Tuesday, April 13, against Lexington. The junior became the first Knights player to defeat a member of Lexington’s powerful tennis team, taking down Minuteman T. Smith 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 for West Holmes’ lone win in a 4-1 loss to Lexington. Danny Nelson lost 6-4, 6-3 at first singles, and Sam Meyer went three games in his third singles match up against S. Mason before falling 3-6, 6-1, 0-6. “I thought our singles players played outstanding tonight against a state level team,” said West Holmes coach Jason Otto. “Brendan had a great win and Danny and Sam both competed well.” Parker Abraham and Michael Anthony fell in straight sets at first doubles, and Ricky Guerra and Drew Alexander fell 6-3, 6-2 at second doubles. “First doubles played hard considering they played a team that should qualify for state,” Otto said. “This was the first time Drew and Ricky played doubles together and they had a nice performance.” The Knights dropped to 1-2 on the season, 0-1 in Ohio Cardinal Conference action. On Wednesday, April 14, the Knights rebounded against a young Norwayne squad, sweeping all but one game in singles action and rolling to a 5-0 victory. Nelson cruised in straight sets at first singles and Meyer won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. Lynch won his matches 6-0, 6-1. Anthony and Parker were 6-3, 6-0 winners at first doubles and Guerra and Rachel Koch won 6-1, 6-1. The Knights evened their record at 2-2. The JV won 2-0.
