The Lady Hawks had little trouble garnering the Sectional championship Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Claymont, squashing the Hornets 84-39 to advance to the District semfinals Tuesday, March 2, at Indian Valley. To say it was a team effort would be an understatement. Hiland had 11 different players score, led by the one-two punch of Missy Mast and Megan Hall. Mast scored 11 points and Hall added 10 for the winners who improved to 20-2 on the campaign. Regan Miller and McKenzie Miller scored nine points apiece and Noelle Yoder, Hannah Stoneman and Hilary Weaver each chipped in eight. Weaver also dished out seven assists. Katelyn Stuckey and Julie Raber scored seven points apiece and Jessica Stutzman popped a pair of 3-pointers for six points. Bria Coil split a pair of free throws to round out the assault. Hiland got a three-point play from McKenzie Miller on its first possession and never looked back, opening an 11-0 lead before Malvern even scored. Regan Miller hit a 3-pointer and a layup to beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter with Hiland holding a 29-11 advantage. It was 51-21 at intermission and the second half featured mostly the Hiland reserves, as the seniors nursed nagging injuries on the sidelines.
