Arora Chaney keeps finding success at first singles, where her inspired play led the Lady Knights to three more tennis wins this past week.

                        

Lady Knights take two versus Cambridge

The West Holmes tennis team continued to play strong tennis this season, pounding out a 5-0 win over Cambridge on Aug. 27.

“We’re grinding hard at practice so we can shine in our matches,” WHHS head coach Rebbie Hill said.

Arora Chaney won 6-1, 6-2 at first singles; Cuylee Troyer took home a 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles; and third singles went to Zariah Troyer 7-6, 2-6, 1-0. The duo of Brylie Rickly and Addison Christine won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles while Genna Miller and Nadia Chaney won 6-3, 6-3 at second doubles.

The two teams squared off for a second match on the hot day, and West Holmes earned another 5-0 win.

Arora Chaney won 6-0, 6-0; Miller won at second singles 6-2, 6-1; and in her first varsity match, Teagan Clark captured a 6-2, 6-4 win at third singles. Christine and Cuylee Troyer won 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 at first doubles while Nadia Chaney and Rickly took home a 6-0, 6-4 victory at second doubles.

It was a dogfight with OCC newcomer New Philadelphia on Aug. 30, but the Lady Knights were able to pull out a 3-2 win, with a pair of 2 1/2 hour matches making the difference at second singles and second doubles.

Arora Chaney won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles, and Troyer defeated Ella Wherely in an epic match at second singles, pulling out a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory.

“Cuylee hit an amazing approach shot for the win,” Hill said.

New Philadelphia’s Katelyn Mamula took down Genna Miller 6-1, 6-0 in third singles, and the Quakers got a win at second doubles, where Kenedi Shook and Katelynn Scott topped Nadia Chaney and Zariah Troyer in a 5-7, 7-6, 6-4 match.

The first doubles duo of Brylie Rickly and Addison Christine wrapped up the win for the Lady Knights with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

West Holmes now stands at 6-5.
