A trip to Lexington on Tuesday, Sept. 22, proved to be a valuable lesson for the Lady Knights.
"I think intimidation played a role in this game. Lex is one of the top teams in our conference, but we could have competed better against them," said West Holmes coach Josh Wengerd. "The bottom line is we didn't play with very much intensity or effort, and we just let them dictate the flow of the game, and you're not going to win, I don't care what sport it is, when you play scared,"
The result was a 6-0 whitewash by the Lady Lex.
Lexington held a 20-2 edge in shots on goal.
Rachel Koch came up with 12 saves in goal for the lady Knights, subbing for a sick Ayla Uhl.
Lexington led 3-0 at intermission and close out with three goals in the second half.
"The JV result was a 3-0 loss for West Holmes in the same kind of game as the varsity," Wengerd said.
West Holmes hosted Wooster on Thursday and the invading Generals were a force to be reckoned with, pounding the Lady Knights' goal with 19 shots en route to a 5-1 victory.
Rachel Koch made 12 saves in goal playing for Uhl again.
"We were down 2-0 at half, and we talked about stepping it up a notch the second half," Wengerd said.
Instead, Wooster started with the ball to kick-off the second half. They dribbled right down the field and scored their third goal 10 seconds into the second half.
Sarah White scored for West Holmes with 21 minutes remaining in the game.
"That goal, even though we were pretty much out of it by that point, lifted us and we did finish strong and not allow any more goals, and possessed the ball better," Wengerd said.
The JV lost 4-0.
