Monday Night Ladies say, “Quit your crying”
Having forced the postponement of numerous baseball and softball games with her spontaneous tantrums throughout the spring and summer, shortening tournaments and wreaking all kinds of havoc on local dirt track racing, she was at it again on Monday, August 1.
But having already had several of their regularly scheduled outings cancelled by tears falling from above, members of the Monday Night Ladies Golf League were not about to let Mother Nature wash away their fun again, with an unforeseen outburst in the skies over Millersburg.
"We got whistled back into the clubhouse while we were on 11 and we all picked our balls up off the green and went in," explained Mary Lou Snyder, one of the elder statesman of the league, as she and her two playing partners scrambled to get out of the rain at around 5:30 p.m. at Fire Ridge Golf Course, in Millersburg. "But then I told them we should have left our balls out there because this is going to pass and we're going to be back out there."
By 5:45 p.m. the storm had wisely receded and the contingent of 15 women emerged from the clubhouse to finish the back nine, with two newcomers joining regular league leader, Jan Fuchs, atop the honor roll, as Danell Taylor tied Fuchs for the Play of the Night, finishing with a Low Net of 27 on the back nine, while also registering the Low Gross in the C Flight with a 52.
Meanwhile, Judy Clark cracked the honor roll for the first time in 2011 as she carded the Low Gross B Flight (45) and the Low Net B Flight (32).
Many of the league members will be back in action at Fire Ridge on Friday, August 5, for the Rally for the Cure golf scramble, to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
