Record setting golfer stays blazing hot through record setting temperatures
Back on July 18, Monday Night Ladies Golf League veteran Jan Fuchs carded a 34 at Fire Ridge Golf Course, to tie Betty McNutt -- a Monday Nighter since 1969 -- for the A Flight Low Gross total.
But that was through only seven holes, as the women were whistled back into the clubhouse because of bad weather.
Two weeks later, on Monday, August 1, Fuchs tied McNutt again...this time for the all-time course record on the back-nine, as she completed the homestretch with a 35 to put herself into the record book next to the former Walnut Creek Elementary School physical education teacher, who accomplished the same feat a year ago, joining Becky Snyder and Karen Shaffer as the only three women, at the time, to have finished 1-under par on the backside.
Having also won the league’s best ball scramble during Guest Night, on July 25 -- along with Arlene Radden, Ruth Schlabach and Vicki Schlabach -- Fuchs’ torrid stretch, through equally torrid summer temperatures, continued on Monday, August 8, as she carded a 41 on the front nine, to finish with both the A Flight Low Gross and A Flight Low Net (33) totals, for the third time in a row.
Meanwhile, McNutt came through with the Play of the Night, putting only 14 times on the front half, while Kathy Stitzlein wrestled her way onto the honor roll for the first time in 2011, and current league secretary Annette Lendacki tallied the right numbers to do the same.
Fuchs and the rest of the ladies will return to the back nine on Monday, August 15.
