The 4x800 relay team of Jared Zollars, Grant Strouse, Brett McClain and Joey Alexander claimed the Division II Eastern District championship Thursday, May 20, and Saturday, May 22, at West Holmes, where the Knights finished sixth as a team. The quartet clocked in at 8:17.73, beating second-place Carrollton by almost four seconds. Zollars also earned a Regional berth for this week’s Meadowbrook Regionals in the 800-meter dash. The senior finished second in 1:58.58. The top four finishers in each event earned a Regional berth. Zollars garnered a third berth in the 4x400, teaming up with Alexander, McClain and Jeremy Anderson to finish third (3:30.94). Anderson also picked up a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19-10.75 to move on to Meadowbrook. Sandy Valley claimed the top team trophy with a score of 89.50. Indian Valley was second (74.5). The Knights were sixth with 50 team points. Scoring but not advancing were Luke Morris with a seventh in the 110-meter hurdles and an eighth in the 200-meter dash. Morris has been suffering shin splints and the pain proved too much. After placing second in the preliminaries with a 23.54, Morris pulled up hurt and finished with a 30.49 in the finals in the 200. Sloan Le and Grant Hay cleared 11-feet in the pole vault to finish sixth and seventh. Cully Gordon and Drew Alexander finished 12-13 in the 3200. The Lady Knights finished second in five events, earning five Regional berths on the way to a fourth-place team finish. Minerva won handily, outscoring runner up Dover 106.5 to 77.5. Harrison Central was third (57) and West Holmes was next with 55.5, narrowly nipping Tusky Valley for fifth. Jasmine Troyer finished second in both the 100-meter dash (13.29) and 200 meter dash (26.59). In both races, Minerva freshman Kaele Lightfoot edged out the West Holmes senior. Troyer also teamed up with Lorraine Strouse, Kendra Martin and Nichole Peterman to take second in the 4x200, clocking in at 1:49.11. Peterman took second in the 300-meter hurdles to advance to Meadowbrook in that event as well. Strouse also added a second in the long jump with a leap of 15-5.75. Martin just missed moving on in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fifth in 17.24. She was also a member of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that finished sixth. Martin, Morganne Fair, Troyer and Peterman made up the 4x100 team, and she joined Fair, Strouse and Peterman in the 4x400. Rebecca Chamberlin threw the discus 105-feet to finish sixth. Hayley Pollen jumped 4-8 in the high jump to place seventh, and Amy Boyd picked up a seventh in the pole vault, clearing 8-6. Macy Adkins capped off her fine career at West Holmes with a ninth-place finish in the 1600 and a 12th in the 3200.
