The West Holmes Lady Knights got a little love in the way of recognition on Monday, March 11, when the names were released for the 2012-13 Associated Press Division II All-Ohio girls basketball teams, based on the recommendations of a media panel.

West Holmes coach Lisa Patterson was honored as the Co-Coach of the Year, while First-Team All-Ohio honors were bestowed on junior forward/center Laina Snyder.

Snyder is averaging 15.8 points per game, to go with an astounding 12.7 rebounds per contest. In addition, the Lady Knights junior is shooting an impressive 48 percent from the floor and 78 percent from the charity stripe, and has shown that being big inside isn't her only asset by totaling a team-high 63 steals and adding 52 assists, showing that she can pass the ball as well as score and defend.

"I'm happy that Laina is finally getting the recognition which she deserves," said Patterson. "I think people around the state are finally realizing the value she brings to the team and the skill set she has. I am very pleased for her."

As for Patterson, she has always been one to shy away from the year-end honors game, but she is humbled by the honor bestowed upon her.

"I do feel very fortunate and honored to receive the award," said Patterson, who shared Div. II Coach of the Year with Ryan Orshaski of Bellevue.

"What that really means is that I get to coach an unbelievably talented team of young ladies who are great, hardworking kids."
