The Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition will host their 18th annual Winter Sports Challenge at Snow Trails in Mansfield this winter on Feb. 4, 2017. This event is designed for individuals with disabilities of all ages, providing them with the equipment and instruction to learn to ski or snowboard. This event also helps TAASC raise money through donations, corporate sponsors and a raffle so they can provide adaptive programming and purchase adaptive equipment. The Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition has involved more than 1,500 people of all ages in outdoor sports. TAASC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is 100 percent volunteer run. TAASC also is 100 percent privately funded by the Winter Sports Challenge fundraiser, contributions, fees and small grants. TAASC, which was founded in 1992, gives people with disabilities the opportunity to take part in adaptive sports such as snowboarding, skiing, water skiing, kayaking, cycling, sailing, ice skating and fishing. Its mission is to “connect individuals with disabilities, their families, volunteers and community organizations through a lifetime of adventure sports.” For the Winter Sports Challenge, Snow Trails Resort has generously donated 500 lift tickets and rental packages for the event. This allows all proceeds to directly benefit TAASC, which gives them the funding to help people with disabilities to enjoy recreational activities throughout the year. At the Snow Trails event TAASC hosts their annual raffle. This raffle helps them raise money by accepting donated goods from companies.
