Triway High School is looking for a new varsity boys basketball coach.

Despite having an outstanding 99-49 record in six seasons leading the Titans, Ben Holt was informed recently that he would not be brought back as the head coach.

“Last week the board of education expressed a desire to pursue a new head coach to lead the boys basketball program,” Triway Superintendent Nate Schindewolf said in an email to The Bargain Hunter. “We appreciate Mr. Holt’s investment in and dedication to his coaching role and are pleased that he will continue to serve as the middle school principal.

“His ongoing leadership in this capacity remains vital to our school community, and we look forward to his continued excellence as an administrator within our district.”

The Titans compiled a 19-6 record in 2023-24 and finished second in the Principals Athletic Conference with an 11-3 mark. CVCA won the title with a 22-3 (14-0) record.

Sophomore Brayden Holt, Ben’s son, was the quarterback in football and a key player on the basketball team.

Ben Holt declined to comment on the situation, saying only that he will defer to the statement put out by Schindewolf.

The Triway School Board consists of Ryan Gilbert (president), Angie Giltner, Anjanette James, Donald Noble II and Travis Snyder.

The district is scheduled to open its new 250,000-square-foot One Triway building in December. A 2,000-seat gym will be one of the crown jewels of the new building, and Triway will enter the new era with a new boys basketball coach.

The Titans’ rich basketball tradition was celebrated this winter during the final couple games in The Pit.

“The athletic department will initiate the search for a new basketball coach in the near future,” Schindewolf said. “Our focus will be on finding a coach who will build upon the program’s strong foundation.”
