The Holmes County Park District is currently taking registrations from teams and individuals for the 2010 Walking on to Wellness Program. The goal is to encourage the people of Holmes County to be more physically active. The competition will run from May 1 through August 11, and encourages participants to be active every week. Teams of 10 or more are required. Members will report weekly to the team captain and every other week the captain will report results for tracking to the park District. Points are awarded for every minute of physical activity with a minimum of 10 minutes. Participants are encouraged to find their own level of physical activity that best suits their lifestyle. The program is not limited to walking. Dancing, aerobics, swimming and gardening are all good examples of physical activity. All participants who log at least 60 points every week of the competition will be entered into a prize drawing at the end of the competition. Prizes will include gift certificates to area businesses, including a one year family membership to Kinetics Fitness For Life, and Walking on to Wellness T-shirts. A traveling trophy will be awarded to the team with the highest per person point average at the end of the competition. Last year, more than 400 individuals participated on 18 teams. Curves I of Millersburg was the winning team. Twice a month updates and team standings appear in the Bargain Hunter. Cost to participate is $5 for adults and $3 for children 18 and under. Deadline to register is April 30. For more information, or to register your team, contact the Park District at 330-674-3353.
