Warriors win Massillon tourney to complete undefeated season

                        
The undefeated Holmes County Warriors won the Massillon Christian Charger Invitational Baseball Tournament. After a lengthy rain delay, the Warriors, a team of homeschooled high school players, defeated Massillon Christian 14-8 on Saturday, May 22, for the championship. The Warriors first had to get by Lawrence School in the semifinal game on Friday, May 21. Tyler Miller pitched two scoreless innings, striking out six. He also contributed offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Patrick Barrios pitched two scoreless innings, racking up five strikeouts. Cole Kuhns went 1-for 1 with a triple, three RBI, four stolen bases, and two walks. Daniel Raber went 3-for-3 with two RBI and three stolen bases. Tyler Miller started for the Warriors in the championship game on Saturday, pitching five solid innings, striking out eight, and scattering three runs on five hits. Cole Kuhns led the team on offense, going 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a triple and three RBI. Barrios, Elisha Mickle and Jesse Sansom each went 2-for-4 with a combined nine stolen bases. The Holmes County Warriors, a homeschool team based in Big Prairie, is made up of players from Wayne and Holmes counties. They went 21-0 this season, beating last year’s record of 19-1. The team was started in 2007 by Dwight and Sue Ann Miller in order to give homeschooled boys the opportunity to play high school baseball. Coached by Dwight Miller and Leroy Kuhns, the team plays public and private schools in the region and across the state of Ohio.
