West Holmes Gold wins a pair and loses one
West Holmes Gold won two and lost one in youth baseball action last week. Following are brief summaries from the area diamond action.Hot Stove
West Holmes Gold suffered an 8-3 loss at Hillsdale on Monday, May 24.
Josh Carsner singled and doubled to lead the nine-hit attack of the Gold Knights. Colton Landon and Patrick Jackson each added two singles, and Clay Stutzman, Scott Troyer and Jonathan Clark each added singles.
Hillsdale scored three times in the first inning, but the Knights tied it in the third before the Falcons took the lead in the fourth and put the game away with four runs in the fifth.
On Wednesday, May 26, at Chippewa, the Gold Knights scored a 9-5 victory over the Chipps.
The hosts took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but West Holmes answered with a run in the second, four in the third and another run in the fourth.
Clay Stutzman homered and singled to lead the offense. Carsner singled twice and doubled, Troyer, Layne Perone and Dustin Niehaus each added two hits for the winners, who improved their record to 4-2.
Colton Landon worked the first five innings on the hill to earn the win with relief help from Troyer. Landon fanned five.
On Thursday, May 27, West Holmes bombed Chippewa 11-1 at Deer Run Park, putting the game away with a four-run sixth inning. A five run second inning got things going for the Gold Knights.
Big hitters for West Holmes Gold were: Scott Troyer with two singles and a double; Josh Carsner, two singles and a triple; Layne Perone, a single and two doubles; Patrick Jackson and single and a double; Jayce Haskew a double and Hunter Akers and Dustin Niehaus a single each.
Brandon Conn pitched the first two innings and Scott Troyer pitched innings three through six to earn the victory. West Holmes Gold improved to 5-2 with the win.

Nashville 1
Mitch Massaro was masterful, throwing a complete game four-hitter at Nashville in an 11-1 romp by Holmesville on Wednesday, May 26. He struck out 11 without walking a batter.
Mathew Chrapowicki led the Holmesville offense, going 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and a double. He drove in eight runs. Cody Duncan added two hits, and Trace Gray and Evan Reidenbach each had an RBI.

Killbuck #1 0
Evan Reidenbach pitched 5-2/3 innings of shut out baseball before he had to be replaced due to his pitch count. Reidenbach only gave up a single and walked two while striking out 15 Killbuck batters. Micah Brown kept the shut out intact getting the last out of the game for Holmesville.
At the plate for Holmesville Mathew Chrapowicki was 2-for-2 with his third home run of the week and 4 RBI. Brown added two hits, including a double, and Reidenbach added two hits as well.
Berlin #1 Maroon 6,
Walnut Creek 2
Eric Mullet and Kyle Troyer provided the big sticks and Noah Sommers was the winning pitcher as Berlin knocked off Walnut Creek on Wednesday, May 26. Mullet homered and Troyer doubled to lead the Berlin offense.
Zach Coblentz hit a triple and a single, and Isaiah Yoder hit two singles in a losing effort for Walnut Creek.

Winesburg 1
Walnut Creek edged Winesburg on Friday, May 29. Zach Coblentz hit two singles and Justin Wagler hit a double and a single to lead Walnut Creek. The winning pitcher was Coblentz with a save by Brian Yoder.
Berlin #1 Maroon 12,
Millersburg #1 1
Eric Mullet and Mark Schlabach banged out three hits apiece to lead Berlin in the romp over Millersburg. One of Mullet's hits was a grand slam homer. Kurtis Yoder added a double and a single for the winners. Jacob Kalman was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and a walk over four innings.
Youth softball
West Holmes 8-U Softball is off to a great start this season with a current record of 3-0. The team has defeated Triway and two Northwestern teams by run rules. 8-U Softball is coached by Ron Allen, Greg Woods and Marc Yabroff.
