West Holmes harriers fare well at Garaway and Ontario Invitationals

                        
West Holmes boys finished second out of eight teams competing at the Garaway Cross Country meet Tuesday, Sept. 22, in Sugarcreek.
Jared Zollars finished fifth in 18:30 out of 77 runners to lead West Holmes.
River View won with 57 points, capturing the top two places. Black Bears Steve Hammond (17:14) and Jacob Stevens (17:15) finished 1-2. The Knights were next with 62, followed by Ridgewood, Garaway and Dover. New Philadelphia, Cambridge and Tuscarawas Central Catholic rounded out the field.
Brett McClain (11th, 19:35), Cully Gordon (13th, 19:39) and Nick Wolff (14th, 19:45) packed together well, with Matt Stonebrook (19th, 19:56) also cracking the top 20 to round out the scoring for West Holmes.
Tim Young (21st, 19:59) and Taylor Eliot (40th, 21:33) also competed for the Knights.
Macy Adkins ran third to lead the Lady Knights to a third-place finish overall behind Dover and New Philadelphia. Adkins clocked in at 21:56, 40 seconds off the pace set by River View’s Brenna Stevens.
Nichole Peterman also finished in the top 10, placing ninth in 23:08. There were 55 runners competing in the girls field.
Lorraine Strouse was next for the Knights at 14th in 23:38. Bethany Molnar also cracked the top 20, coming in 19th in 23:52. Miranda Hostetler rounded out the scoring for West Holmes, placing 33rd in 26:23. Logan Huffman (46th, 28:25) and Laura Miller (47th, 28:37) also competed for the Lady Knights.
The Knights finished fifth as a team at the Ontario Invitational on Saturday, paced by Zollars’ fifth-place finish out of 168 runners. The senior clocked in at 17:34.
Cully Gordon cracked the top 20, finishing 18th in 18:13.
Nick Wolff ran 25th in 18:23 and Matt Stonebrook finished 41st in 18:54. Tim Young capped the West Holmes scoring with a 51st-place finish in 19:01.
Brett McClain (59th, 19:28) and Taylor Eliot (106th, 20:49) also competed for the Knights.
The Lady Knights finished 10th out of 15 teams led by Macy Adkins’ 27th-place finish out of 146 runners. Adkins clocked in at 21:24.
Nichole Peterman was the next West Holmes runner to cross the finish line in 33rd (21:53). Lorraine Strouse (55th, 22:47), Bethany Molnar (59th, 22:50) and Lauren Evans (99th, 25:20) rounded out the scoring for West Holmes. Miranda Hostetler (104th, 25:31) and Morganne Fair (108th, 26:00) also competed for the Knights.
