Alex Pringle kicked a 20-yard field goal as time expired to give West Holmes a 23-21 win over Madison in Ohio Cardinal Conference football action on Sept. 20.

Lynn Cline rushed for 105 yards on 15 carries and snagged six passes for 87 yards to lead the Knights (3-2, 2-0). He also paced the defense with 17 tackles including two for loss.

Morgan Smith completed 13-of-20 passes for 180 yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 28 yards and a score. Logan Zollars hauled in three passes for 35 yards and a score while Brock Gallions caught four passes for 37 yards. Maddox Graham added 42 yards on the ground.

Hunter McCluggage recorded 12 tackles (two sacks) and forced two fumbles, Braxton Blake (tackle for loss, half sack) and Mac Craft each had 11 tackles, Hayden Smith had nine tackles (tackle for loss, sack), and Graham recorded seven tackles and returned an interception for a score.

Girls golf

West Holmes finished eighth at the Division I Cambridge Sectional on Sept. 23.

Lady Knights freshman Aubrey Burchfield qualified for districts as an individual by finishing sixth overall with a 92.

Payton Hudson (121), Memphis Jones (123) and Jevin Zheng (146) also scored for WH.

West Holmes competed at the OCC Tournament #3 on Sept. 19.

Burchfield led the Lady Knights with a 103. She earned All-OCC first-team honors for her performance throughout the season.

West Holmes finished fifth in the final team standings.

Boys golf

West Holmes shot a 376 to finish ninth at the Div. II River Greens Sectional on Sept. 23.

Maverick Rickly (89) and Zane Kinsey (91) led the Knights. Koen Bridenthal (94), Connor Burchfield (102) and Wyatt Carter (104) also competed for WH.

West Holmes shot a 354 to finish 10th at the State Farm Invitational on Sept. 21.

Kinsey (85) and Rickly (87) paced WH. Burchfield added a 90 and Bridenthal a 92.

West Holmes competed at the OCC Tournament #3 on Sept. 19.

Rickly paced the Knights with an 88. Bridenthal added a 90 while Burchfield and Kinsey chipped in 92s.

The Knights finished sixth in the final team standings.

West Holmes beat Coshocton (183-194) but fell to Tusky Valley (182-183) in nonleague play on Sept. 18.

Burchfield and Bridenthal both shot 44s to lead the Knights. Rickly added a 47 and Wyatt Carter a 48.

Girls cross country

West Holmes finished second out of 20 teams at the Denny Stevens Invitational on Sept. 24.

Iriel Mena led the way with a second-place finish in a personal-record time of 19:07. Zora Starner finished 13th, Lexy Starner 19th, Noelle Smith 22nd and Alexis Wagers 55th to complete the scoring.

Girls tennis

Wooster knocked off West Holmes 5-0 in an OCC clash on Sept. 24.

West Holmes defeated Mount Vernon 3-2 in OCC action on Sept. 23.

Arora Chaney won 6-3, 6-2 at first singles; Brylie Rickly won 6-3, 6-3 at second singles; and the second doubles duo of Jozlynn Giauque and Addison Christine won 6-4, 6-4.

West Holmes rolled to a 5-0 nonleague win over Claymont on Sept. 19.

Chaney won 6-0, 6-1 at first singles; Rickly won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles; and Zariah Troyer won 6-1, 6-0 at third singles. The first doubles team of Autumn Strouse and Kylee Taylor and the second doubles duo of Giauque and Christine both won 6-1, 6-0.

In junior varsity action, Claire Drzazga and Teagan Clark won a doubles match 8-3.

Boys cross country

West Holmes finished 13th out of 26 teams at the Denny Stevens Invitational on Sept. 24.

Hunter Uptain led the Knights by finishing 32nd in 17:38. Owen Neville finished 49th while Blazedyn Mullins, Reid Chaney and Owen Mallasch rounded out the scoring.

Volleyball

Madison picked up a 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-14 win over West Holmes in an OCC clash on Sept. 24.

Allie Snyder paced WH with 24 digs, 17 assists and 10 kills. Greta Rolince contributed 15 kills, five digs and two assists while Mallory Marmet added seven kills, two blocks and two digs.

Lexington defeated West Holmes 25-16, 25-13, 22-25, 21-25, 15-5 in OCC play on Sept. 19.

Mati Fair led the Lady Knights with 22 assists and 16 digs. Snyder added 18 kills, 12 digs, seven assists and four aces while Rolince chipped in nine digs and nine kills.

Girls soccer

Madison cruised to a 7-0 win over West Holmes in OCC action on Sept. 19.

Boys soccer

Ashland downed West Holmes 16-0 in OCC play on Sept. 24.

Crestview rolled to a 9-0 nonleague win over West Holmes on Sept. 19.

Knights goalkeeper Jordan Gerber finished with 12 saves.

Eighth-grade football

West Holmes rolled to a 38-0 win over Mansfield Senior in a two-quarter OCC clash on Sept. 18.

Coi Beachy rushed for two touchdowns, passed for a score and tossed two two-point conversion passes to lead the Knights (5-0, 4-0).

Silas Baker caught a touchdown and ran for a score while Jakob Markley rushed for a touchdown. Logan Leyda and Eb Al-Sultan caught a two-point conversion pass.

Brice Ramseyer paced the defense with an interception.

Seventh-grade football

Mansfield Senior picked up a 34-14 win over West Holmes in an OCC clash on Sept. 18.

Chaseton Stokovich ran for a touchdown and a two-point conversion to lead the Knights. Easton Clark threw a touchdown pass to Weston Rogers for WH’s other points.

Joey Camacho intercepted a pass and Aiden Lehman broke up two passes to pace the defense.
