Zuercher stepping down as Orrville athletic director
After more than two decades working for the Orrville City School District, Audrey Zuercher is stepping down as the Red Riders’ athletic director after this school year. Her official last day will be June 30.
“I just felt it was time for me to move on,” said Zuercher, who was Orrville’s athletic director for nine years and was previously the athletic trainer from 2004-15. “I don’t have any plans for the future that I can share at this point, but I have some irons in the fire that I am waiting for the process to be completed.”
Zuercher, who’s not related to recently nonrenewed football coach Matt Zuercher, said she will leave with great memories of her 21 combined years at Orrville.
“I feel like I grew up at Orrville,” she said. “I started there soon after my husband and I were married. My kids were both born while working there and ran the halls of Orrville High School many afternoons and evenings. I enjoyed working with the admin team who was there for most of my career.”
There were some major wins on the athletic fields and courts during Zuercher’s tenure, but she takes most pride in always trying to positively impact the culture at Orrville.
“I feel like together we impacted Orrville athletics in a positive way,” Zuercher said. “Some of the things I enjoyed most were collaborating with the Class of 1962 to get our Digital Hall of Fame created and installed, implementing and leading our Student Athletic Leadership Team, and working on a daily basis with coaches who have become an extended family.
“It is the coaches and those I have worked with for years who I will miss most.”
