Ohio Farm Bureau’s 2024-25 AgriPOWER Institute kicked off in October with 14 farmers and agribusiness professionals participating in Class XV.

AgriPOWER is a leadership program focused on issues that are relevant to the farm and food industry such as consumer relations, regulations, energy and trade policies. In AgriPOWER individuals develop the skills necessary to become effective leaders and advocates for agriculture by learning from experts in these fields.

Among the participants this year are Grace Baxter and Olivia Lang, both of Wooster.

Baxter grew up on Angus cow-calf operations in Eastern Kansas and Texas and also showed her family’s cattle in 4-H and FFA. She is now an associate account marketing manager at Certified Angus Beef, where she develops working relationships with licensed food service distributors, restaurants and retailers, providing these partners with marketing tools to promote and grow their sales of the brand.

Lang lives on the family farm where they grow row crops, along with recently added U-pick strawberry and pumpkin patches. She also is an agricultural risk adviser at Hummel Group Insurance, where she works with farmers to reduce risk on their farms and helps them protect the longevity of their farms through insurance planning.

“These individuals have already made their mark on Ohio agriculture, and I am excited that they want to take their leadership skills to the next level,” said Marlene Eick, director of AgriPOWER. “This program will not only give participants a deeper understanding of the farm and food sector here in Ohio and across the country; it will also give them the tools they need to become even stronger advocates for an industry they are already passionate about.”

One of the sessions will take place in Washington, D.C. to give participants a better understanding of national and global issues, and an out-of-state session in California will help them learn about the differences and similarities in agriculture outside of Ohio.
