‘Functional Ceramics’ exhibit, workshop at WCA
Ohio Designer Craftsmen presents “Functional Ceramics 2025” at the Wayne Center for the Arts in Wooster through April 12. Held in conjunction with a workshop of the same name, the show features work by 14 artists from across the country and from Canada.
Ohio University graduate Jenn Cole creates functional ceramics.
“I believe functional pottery should beautify everyday rituals and be a pleasure to use,” she said. “Familial connections, antiquity-inspired imagery, and creating a dialogue between the past and present are at the foundation of my work.”
Among the artists joining Cole are Cathi Jefferson, British Columbia, Canada; Mark Goertzen, Goshen, Indian; and Maya Machin, Ashfield, Massachusetts.
A free reception will be held April 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This year’s workshop will be April 11-12, and three artists (also in the exhibition) will demonstrate their making and decorating techniques: Cary and Stephanie Hulin are potters in nearby Big Prairie, and Catie Miller resides in Fargo, North Dakota.
Registration costs $175 or $75 for students and includes two box lunches and a Friday evening dinner at the Wayne Center for the Arts. Space is limited. To register, visit www.functionalworkshop.com or call 614-486-4402.
The Wayne Center for the Arts is located at 237 S. Walnut St. in Wooster. Visit www.wayneartscenter.org for hours and directions.
