People’s political choices valid, even if you disagree
Letter to the Editor,
Sue Froelich’s letter in the Oct. 19 paper is … a lot. Calling people “low IQ” for supporting Kamala Harris is a lazy and tired argument. People don’t support her just for being a woman or pro-choice; they do because they believe in healthcare, equality and bodily autonomy. And newsflash — abortion is healthcare. Simplifying it to “murder” shows a serious lack of understanding.
As for leadership during disasters, real leaders don’t just fly in for a photo op. They address the bigger picture — like climate change — and put real policies in place to help long-term. By the way, Trump’s response to Puerto Rico? Not exactly a shining moment in leadership.
Also, the Hitler comparison is just absurd. No, Trump didn’t kill 6 million people, but that doesn’t mean his actions — like undermining democracy and inciting violence — aren’t dangerous. It’s 2024, and we can acknowledge that questioning a legitimate election with no proof isn’t “fighting for democracy.” It’s harming it.
At the end of the day, we need to vote for what matters: healthcare, climate, jobs and our future. People’s political choices are valid even if they’re not yours. That’s how democracy works.
