Bring appetite April 20 to support OneEighty
Bring your appetite and support a community nonprofit on April 20 when OneEighty presents a Night of One Hundred Eighty Dinners from 6-8 p.m. at the Millersburg Methodist Church, 5395 Township Road 336, Millersburg.
The event is casual and was first held in 2006. It has been held mostly every other year with a few missed years. The event will feature over 25 chefs — community members, business leaders and restaurant chefs. Each will bring a specialty dish. Offerings will include everything from meats to side dishes and desserts. Participants are invited to sample some or all of the selection.
All funds raised by the nonprofit will go toward community services. Because of community support through events, OneEighty's domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy services are free for clients.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and OneEighty is participating with the national Start by Believing campaign.
“OneEighty is best known for working with victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and those dealing with addiction issues,” said Christy VanSickle, OneEighty's community relations and marketing manager. “We serve both Wayne and Holmes counties. This year OneEighty is celebrating our 50-year anniversary.”
Funds also are directed toward the emergency shelter for victims. It is typically at its capacity of 44 beds. Money raised also will assist with providing meals and preventive healthcare services.
Ticket prices are children age 6 and under for free, age 7-12 for $15, and age 13 and up for $25. Tickets may be purchased online at www.one-eighty.org/events/taste-extravaganza-2/ or at the door the night of the event.
Sponsors for the event include Denco, Paint Valley Equipment, Shoemaker Custom Apparel, 83 Self Storage, Mic and Leah Miller, Judy Alexander Trust, Killbuck Savings Bank, Dutchman Hospitality, ProVia, Holmes Siding, and After Burner Performance.
Currently, OneEighty's Millersburg office is looking for a part-time counselor, and the Holmes County Friends and Neighbors is in need of board members.
