The West Holmes FFA celebrated FFA Week March 18-22. FFA Week is held on a national level in February, but the chapter celebrates in March for better weather and safety of its members. Throughout the week students had dress days, and the FFA hosted a petting zoo in the ag room with different animals each day.

Monday’s dress day was camo day, and there were pigs and goats in the ag room that the student body could spend time viewing.

Tuesday’s dress day was country kid versus country club day, and there were rabbits in the ag room. It also was drive your truck to school day. The categories and their winners were as follows: Cleanest, Andi Schuch; Dirtiest, Taelor Patterson; Biggest, Garrett Sampsel; Smallest, Quinn Cornwell; Oldest, Jarrett Schaffer; Newest, Andi Schuch; and Judge’s Choice, Jenna Sheldon.

Wednesday’s dress day was wear your favorite brand day, and there were beef cattle in the ag room.

Thursday’s dress day was blue and gold and official dress day, and there were dairy cattle in the ag room.

Friday’s dress day was dress like Derek Miller day, and there were horses in the ag room. Students were able to get a cart ride from Chip the pony. Also, Friday was bring your tractor to school day, and a tractor parade was held during the day.

The winners of each category were as follows: Oldest, Keith Hawkins and Trent Mast; Newest, Sam Sprang; Dirtiest, Hayden Smith; Cleanest, Sam Sprang; Smallest, Quentin Vehrs; Biggest, Sam Sprang; and Judge’s Choice, Miley Snow and Casey Ogi, Building Trades Scissor Lift and Jacob Miller.

FFA meeting

While people might envision West Holmes FFA with its signature blue and gold colors, their recent meeting extended to plenty of other colorful options.

The West Holmes FFA chapter held its March meeting on March 18, where members participated in an Easter egg hunt during the meeting and then enjoyed a family potluck-style meal.

The meeting took place in the commons of the school and was brought to order by President Alex Pringle. Opening ceremonies were held, officer reports were given and new business was then conducted.

The club voted to do the following:

—Participate in the East Holmes or Allan East trap shoot and have the chapter cover half of the shooting fees, as well as pay for supplies for the banquet.

—Donate all proceeds from the silent auction at the banquet to the Holmes County Dog Pound & Adoption Center.

—Send members to the Ohio FFA State Convention and have each member pay a $75 deposit.

—Have the chapter pay for one meal or half the price of an activity for each member who attends state convention.

—Approve the Certificate of Appreciation nominees as posted.

—Help Holmes County Soil and Water District with the tree packing that took place April 3.

—Have six money eggs at the March meeting egg hunt, with four valued at $5 and one valued at $10 and $20 apiece.

—Host and pay for supplies for the district outdoor power contest.

—Send members to FFA camp this summer.

—Hold Quality Assurance training in class in May.

—Use the Posey Pad for their flowers for the banquet this year.

—Approve Mr. Dodd for the Honorary American Degree, Janessa Hill for the Honorary State Degree, the Schlauchs and Mr. Pringle for the Honorary Chapter Degree, and Lori Pringle, Dawn Miller, the Schuches, Ag Pro Wooster, Drzazga Livestock, Jayme Pennell and Mandy Taylor for the Distinguished Service Award.

—Have members and one guest attend the banquet for free and have the chapter pay the remaining $5 of other guests’ fees.

—Pay for stall mats used for FFA Week.
