ARTSNCT will present live music Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at Newcomerstown Middle School as part of its Arts for All community performance series, with the sounds of the Dover High School steel drum band and jazz band. The concert is free to attend.

This concert is one of two celebratory events honoring the 100-year anniversary of the Newcomerstown Middle School building. As part of the milestone celebration, attendees also can get a freewill donation lunch offered by the Newcomerstown Historical Society, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the school’s cafeteria.

The steel drum band was formed in 1992 by Joan Wenzel, retired Dover Band director and percussion specialist. Under Wenzel’s leadership, the program saw steady growth in both size and scope. She retired from her band teaching position in 2013 and from the steel drum band in 2015. Since then the band has been under the direction of Dover Band Director Chris Redd. The steel drum band routinely performs throughout the Dover community and the greater Tuscarawas area, with a highlight being its annual Pantasia concert, traditionally held on the Sunday of Presidents Day weekend.

Newcomerstown Middle School is located at 325 W. State St. in Newcomerstown.
