Wayne Center for the Arts announces winter classes
The Wayne Center for the Arts will kick off the new year with an expanded lineup of classes.
Returning favorites will be joined by new offerings, providing something for everyone from preschoolers to adults.
“By offering more class options during the week and on Saturdays, we hope to fit everyone’s schedule,” Executive Director Sara Brink said. “We also strive to fit everyone’s interests, as we continue to introduce new classes and music lessons to keep the WCA buzzing with activity.”
The winter session will feature a variety of options, blending traditional arts instruction with workshops. Class descriptions and registration are available online at www.WayneArtsCenter.org.
Classes for kids
For preschoolers WCA will offer Mud Pies, a pottery class designed for age 4-5. This hands-on experience introduces young children to basic clay techniques while fostering creativity and fine motor skill development.
Older kids can explore pottery through Mudlarks for age 6-9, where they’ll learn foundational skills such as coil building, slab work and sculptural techniques to create flower dishes, birdhouses and more.
As they advance, students can join Kids Wheel and Handbuilding for age 10-13 to further develop their skills in both handbuilding and wheel-throwing, creating projects like mugs, bowls and sculptures. Both classes will be offered on Saturdays and during the week.
Children also can explore visual arts, like painting and drawing, dance, acting, digital arts, and music through classes geared toward each age group and skill level. A new class called Young Singers for age 6-9 will explore age-appropriate songs.
Programs for teens, adults
Teens and adults will find a variety of opportunities to learn new skills or refine existing ones.
Upcoming highlights include Sewing Machine Basics and new dance classes such as adult ballet, tap and Musical Theater: Family Dance Class, where multiple generations can dance and learn together.
For aspiring musicians, WCA will offer group classes in piano, drums and guitar.
“These low-pressure group settings are perfect for trying out an instrument without a big commitment,” music and education coordinator Beth Negro said. “By the end of the class, you’ll know whether you want to continue with private lessons. There is a wide variety to choose from in the WCA Music Department, whether it is trying something new or delving in deeper with private lessons.”
Unique media
This winter’s schedule also will include specialty classes like an Introduction to Lithography with Ricki Denes.
“Lithography is a fascinating printmaking technique based on how grease repels water,” Denes said.
Participants will explore this art form through soda lithography and pronto plates, with projects tailored for all skill levels.
