The grand opening of the new Park Village Southside in New Philadelphia is scheduled for this month. Public open houses were held Nov. 13 and Nov. 20 to allow the community to see the new campus. The 90,000-square-foot retirement community includes 36 private rehabilitation and skilled nursing units with two suites and 72 assisted living units ranging from studio to two-bedroom apartments. The building has a large two-story atrium with a water feature, several common areas with fireplaces, four dining rooms, two private dining rooms, a chapel, a theater, a cafe and two large activity areas. Outside on the campus are numerous patios, a 1-acre pond and walking trails. Park Village Dover currently employs 210, and Park Village Southside will employ 100. The campus has hired half of its staff and will continue to hire for positions as the campus accommodates more residents over the next twelve months. The Southside campus is situated on 13.5 acres at 1019 Oldtown Valley Road SE, New Philadelphia, a quarter mile south of South Elementary. Ivan Weaver Construction of Fredericksburg was the general contractor. Many local subcontractors were involved in the construction including Henry Heating and Cooling, Wood Electric, Countryside Plumbing and Joan Fondriest Interiors. Ground was broken in September on phase two of the campus development with the construction of seven duplex cottages for independent living. The cottages are 1,400 square feet with a full kitchen, full bath, living/dining area, two bedrooms, laundry room, screened-in porch and a one-car garage. The cottages are scheduled for completion next spring. Park Village has been family owned and operated since 1952. Frances Eiler Karl founded the business, which was passed to her daughter Rose Anne and son-in-law Robert O’Donnell in 1964. Rose Anne and Robert’s sons Robert and Thomas and Robert’s wife Kathy took over the business in the late 1980s and have managed it since. With the opening of the new Southside campus two long-term employees/associates have been welcomed to the ownership. Marci Shutt, LNHA, BSN, of Dover is the administrator of the Dover campus, and Jeff Tucker, CPA, of New Philadelphia is Park Village’s chief financial officer. Private tours of the new campus can be scheduled by calling 330-364-4436.
