Sheiyah for the holidays
The whole family can experience “love, joy and hope” and get back to A Simple Merry Christmas during the open house at Sheiyah Market on Thursday, Nov. 11; Friday, Nov. 12; and Saturday, Nov. 13.
“People come here to get into the spirit,” said Ruth Schlabach, who owns Sheiyah Market and The Shoppes with her husband, Steve.
While visitors come year round to browse the wide-ranging curated collection of unique household goods, clothing, toys and gifts and bask in the relaxed atmosphere of refined elegance, the 50,000-square-foot grounds shine at Christmastime.
“We transform every square inch of Sheiyah Market at Christmastime,” Schlabach said. “From one corner to the other, you’re going to see the season in sparkling lights. We decorate The Shoppes and our courtyard and light all the fireplaces.”
There are plenty of hotspots around the courtyard for family photos capturing a bit of the magic, including a festive sleigh, a merry little red truck and an authentic Amish buggy.
For many visitors around the holidays, The Gardens at Sheiyah Market becomes an Advent calendar, with something wonderful behind every storefront window.
“At The Village Gift Barn, you’re going to get a little more glitz for the traditional Christmas,” Schlabach said. “If you’re hosting, you can find some fantastic, yummy food. Country Gatherings sets the stage for a farmhouse Christmas, and then The Garden at Country Gatherings has everything you need to decorate the outside — and inside — of your house. It’s full of plants to liven up your home, poinsettias, Christmas cactus and maybe some mistletoe for anyone in the mood to liven things up a bit more.”
The Sheiyah Style Boutique has clothing, high-fashion jewelry, Pandora, Brighton, purses, accessories, anything a woman or young woman would ever want. You’re bound to find the perfect gift here.
No Advent calendar would be complete without a treat at the end. After finding the perfect gift, The Buggy Brew Coffee Co. is the place for the perfect pick-me-up.
“The peppermint mocha is my favorite,” Schlabach said. “The coffee is locally roasted, and a lot of the men set up camp there by the fireplace while their wives shop.”
Still, Sheiyah Market has become the go-to for last-minute holiday shopping for many husbands, boyfriends, sons and grandsons.
“The week or two before Christmas, we cater to men,” Schlabach said. “We help them find just the right gifts for all the special someones in their life, wrap their packages and put a bow on top. All they have to do is put their gifts under the tree.”
The team displays many Christmas trees, each decorated with a unique theme.
Sheiyah Market, a name incorporating the Pennsylvania Dutch term meaning barn, is a fitting reminder of the season’s true meaning. Christmas, after all, was born in a barn.
“On Nov. 26, there will be a live Nativity Parade,” Schlabach said. The parade is made up of live animals from The Farm At Walnut Creek, kids dressed up as angels and shepherds. It’s a celebration of the Birth of Jesus.
