The Keim Company expands, adding locations, brands
The Keim Company, formerly Keim Lumber, was founded in 1911. Over the years the company has undergone several name changes including Keim Bros., MJ Keim and Son, and Keim Lumber Company. In 2020 the company introduced a new logo and the wordmark Keim. The name has officially changed to The Keim Company in 2024.
“Most of the time people will still call us Keim, and we’re OK with that,” said Jim Smucker, president of The Keim Company. “The new name allows us to more accurately reflect the broadness of our operation as we expand to offer new product lines and serve new locations.”
As a fourth-generation, family-owned business, The Keim Company is guided by owners Robbie and Karen Keim. The ownership is committed to a long-term view on business.
“As owners we see ourselves as stewards of Keim,” Robbie Keim said.
“We want the company to be around serving co-workers, customers and communities for another 100 years,” Karen Keim said.
The Keim Company serves contractors, professional woodworkers, retail customers, and architects and designers.
“We are always looking for ways to make it easier for our customers to do business with us and serve each person the way they want to be served,” said Abe Troyer, executive director of sales.
Keim Home Center in Charm is a sought-after home-building destination in the region, welcoming over 300,000 visitors each year. Beyond the Home Center, the company offers brands and products uniquely available to Keim customers.
“Many people know about the inspiring store and showroom, but Keim offers much more than meets the eye,” said Phil Tieszen, executive director of marketing. “Keim provides many products and services that help contractors and professional woodworkers keep their businesses running smoothly.”
Their millwork products, manufactured in Charm, are experiencing growing demand.
“It’s important for us to deliver quality while also keeping lead times consistent for our customers,” said Joseph Troyer, executive director of millwork operations.

“We are excited to offer something new in our community that combines great products with our service here at Keim,” Abe Troyer said.
The Keim Company also has a distribution agreement with Accoya, a modified Radiata Pine with a 50-year warranty above ground. This wood product is ideal for siding, decking, outdoor furniture and cabinets.
In recent years The Keim Company has expanded to serve customers in multiple locations across Ohio. The main location in Charm includes Keim Home Center and the majority of its manufacturing and logistics operations.
Keim Columbus, a contractor sales office, focuses on millwork and meeting the demands of the growing nearby population.
Keim Mt. Hope Hardware serves as a convenient hardware store where customers can place orders for delivery from Keim’s large inventory. This location also offers a growing selection of electric appliances.
The Keim Baltic location serves as a distribution warehouse, supporting future company growth.
Expanding our footprint allows us to better serve our customers and prepare for the future,” said Ervin Troyer, executive director of logistics.
The Keim Company strives to be a great employer by offering competitive wages and benefits. With over 600 employees, Keim fosters a work environment where employees work in small teams and are encouraged to learn new skills.
“We believe in investing in the future of our employees,” said Mark Leinbach, executive director of people development. “Maintaining our culture is one of the most important areas we focus on as we grow.”
