Holiday shoppers and history buffs can shop an array of German-inspired gifts and seasonal décor during the Zoar Store’s Black Friday mystery sale on Nov. 25 at 198 Main St. in Historic Zoar Village.

“As part of our mystery sale, guests will reach into a bag and pull out a 5%, 10% or 15% discount off their purchase,” said Tammi Shrum, site director. “Not only will patrons get to shop the unique, nostalgic gifts here in our historic village, but all purchases also help preserve our local history.”

Discounts apply to in-store purchases only. All proceeds from the Zoar Store help fund educational programming, site operations and historically accurate restorations of Historic Zoar Village structures.

Upcoming restorations have already been planned for the Town Hall, which was built in 1887. Plans also include giving the Mansard building on the Zoar Hotel property a more historic appearance and restoration of the Beiter #3 House, which originally served as the cow herder’s boarding house. Zoar Community recently purchased the structure at auction.

The Zoar Store’s recently updated inventory includes Christmas ornaments and spinners handcrafted in Germany. Additional wooden Christmas ornaments resemble buildings in a miniature snowy village — complete with space for a tree bulb to illuminate the details.

Guests also will find Zoar-themed Christmas cards; vintage toys made in Germany; locally made jams, krauts and mustards; embossed rolling pins featuring the Zoar Star and other patterns; Shooner Pottery, made by Ohio residents Greg and Mary Shooner, who are considered the premier redware potters in the country; and a selection of Fort Laurens-inspired T-shirts, patriotic merchandise, educational toys and military history books.

All proceeds will benefit Fort Laurens Museum.

The Zoar Store is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. through Dec. 23. Visit www.facebook.com/thezoarstore.
