On Sunday, Jan. 23, the Pregnancy Care Center and Wayne-Holmes Right to Life will sponsor a Sanctity of Human Life Service to remember the 63 million American children who have died since Roe v. Wade was legalized in 1973. The event will take place at 2 p.m. at West Hill Baptist Church, 2241 Mechanicsburg Road, Wooster.

The service will feature Ruth and Victor Hernandez. Eight years ago Ruth Hernandez came to the Pregnancy Care Center because of an unplanned pregnancy and chose life, a decision for which she and her son Victor are very grateful. The Rev. Rickey Brown of Second Baptist Church is the special speaker. The chapel allows for social distancing and COVID protocols as desired. Attendees are welcome to stay afterward for refreshments.

President Ronald Reagan first proclaimed National Sanctity of Life Day on Jan. 22 in 1984 during the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion nationwide. Churches and pro-life groups typically celebrate this event on the Sunday nearest Jan. 22. Churches around the United States use the day to celebrate God's gift of life, commemorate the many lives lost to abortion and commit themselves to protecting human life at every stage.
