Art guild has show and tell
A full palette of colors and talent was laid out before the capacity crowd of members and guests at the Tuscarawas County Art Guild’s October meeting at the Center for the Arts. The show and tell session featured a collection of pastels; oil and water color paintings; a colored pencil drawing by Jim Filkorn of Bolivar; a brilliantly striped glass tray by Sam Juhasz of Massillon; and a carved clay figure mounted on canvas by Nancy McDonald of Dover.President Marcie Dryden announced the guild’s annual Fall and Winter Fine Art Show, which will kick off with an artists’ reception on Nov. 21, from 6-8 p.m., at the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts. The show runs through Jan. 6, 2010.
She also announced the guild’s new Web site will be up and running soon.
Vivian Sickafoose, chairperson of the nominating committee, presented the slate of officers for 2010, to be voted on in November. The secretary read a recent e-mail from one of the art scholarship recipients, Logan Phillips of Dover. He reported he is enjoying his art classes at Asbury College in Kentucky, and has a part-time job as an assistant to the art gallery director. Karen Gazdik reported that Alexis Victor, art scholarship recipient from New Philadelphia, was also doing well and has returned to the Cleveland Institute of Art, and also has a job there.
Refreshments were served by Karen Gazdik, and Karen Thornton. The next regular meeting of the Tuscarawas County Art Guild will be Tuesday, Nov. 17.
