Wooster Music Club met April 2 with Kathy Helmuth and Louie Miller, co-presidents, welcoming members and guests.

The performance portion of the meeting started with a quartet consisting of Annie Gerig on oboe, Kathy Helmuth on flute, Marty Starkey on clarinet and Myra Leeper on piano.

The group performed “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” by Frankie Lyman, “My Foolish Heart” by Victor Young, “The Fool on the Hill” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and “What a Fool Believes” by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins.

Victor Young, composer of “My Foolish Heart,” was the subject of the Composer’s Corner, provided by Annie Gerig.

Laura Tappen (vocal and guitar) sang “Vincent” (Starry, Starry Night) by Don McLean, “Meet Me in the Middle of the Air” by Paul Maurice Kelly and “Potato” by Cheryl Wheeler. An original song, “Make Me a Mary,” was composed and performed on piano by Meg Litteral, who then completed the night’s program with recitation of her poems “Kodiak” (about her grandson) and “Michael” (about her husband).

The Wooster Music Club meets the first Tuesday of each month from September through May, except for January and February. The meetings take place in Wesley Hall of the United Methodist Church, and guests are invited to attend.
