Lions from local and distant Lions Clubs gathered April 17-18, for a district convention at the Shisler Conference Center in Wooster. District governor Steve Thornton presided over the event, which included a presentation of colors from the Wooster Police Department Honor Guard, and special music from the College of Wooster’s all female capella group, the COWBelles. Distinguished speakers recognized the work of Lions around the world and locally. Election results were shared and the introduction of new officers finalized the event with the official passing of the gavel ceremony. In other news, the Orrville Lions Club is trying to raise money for sight-impaired individuals within the community. A Serving for Sight fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Bishop’s Restaurant. Orrville Lions will bus the tables and distribute information about the local club and the work of Lions world-wide. Guests may donate money to the Lions Club through an envelope placed on each table. All proceeds will be used to help with the purchase of glasses and eye surgeries for individuals needing assistance locally. The Orrville Lions will also be Serving for Sight again by selling hot dogs at the Orrville Buehler’s store on May 28 (Friday of Memorial Day weekend). The next meeting of the Orrville Lions Club will be Tuesday, May 11, at 8 a.m., in the community room of Dunlap Community Hospital, featuring guest speaker Rittman Lion Mark Arnold sharing about the American Blind Golf Tournament.
