The Orrville Lions Club learned many things about the Heartland Education Community, Inc. and Heartland Point from guest speaker Cindy Summers, manager, Heartland Initiatives. The Heartland Education Community, Inc. was founded in 1991 with a coalition focused on leveraging the talents and resources of the community for the betterment of education. OrrViews, the local publication of the Heartland Education Community, Inc., was first published in 2001 as a result of combined efforts of community organizations and individuals. Today, approximately 3,800 copies are distributed bi-weekly. Heartland Point, a community connecting place in downtown Orrville, was the result of National City Bank donating a former bank building to Heartland Education Community, Inc. It is now five years old and houses two meeting rooms, a café, information center, specialty classes, and spacious areas for casual conversations for community businesses and individuals. With 20, 10, and five-year anniversaries respectively all happening this year, a community celebration is planned for the week of June 6. Details of planned events will be made public soon. Wayne County Auditor Jarra Underwood will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Orrville Lions Club April 26, at 7:45 a.m., in the community room of Dunlap Community Hospital. The public is always welcome.
