NARFE meeting notes

                        
National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Wayne County Chapter 2218, met Thursday, Nov. 11 at Ryan’s in Wooster. Under legislation, Dick Becker reported on the Fiscal Responsibility and Refore, co-chairs Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson’s 50-page primary proposal that would reduce federal retiree health benefits and income security AD, freeze federal pay for three years and reduce the federal workforce by 10 percent. NARFE members are urged to contact their members of Congress to oppose this proposal. Officers for 2011 were elected. They are Larry Harris, president; Dick Becker, first vice president; Robert Hildebrand, second vice president; Robert Ajtaji, treasurer; and Veronica Menges, secretary. They will be installed at the December meeting. The chapter members were reminded that the Christmas party will be held Dec. 9 at the Pines Restaurant in Orrville at 11:30 a.m. Members are to bring canned goods and unwrapped toys to be delivered to People to People. Chapter members Paul Schaffter, Dave Menges and Larry Harris shared some of their remembrances of their time in the military for the program. Members were also reminded that there will be no meeting in January and February 2011.
