When the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, Wayne County Chapter 2218, met Thursday, May 13, they heard a report on the state convention which was held April 28 through May 1, in Fairborn. The main topic of the convention was membership. How do they recruit new members and retain members. NARFE has been in existence 90 years and there are still many people who are unaware of it. There are 10 NARFE regions nationally and Reg. IV (the region that Ohio is in) is ranked fourth in donations to Alzheimer’s research and Ohio chapters are number one in Reg IV. NARFE has donated $8,604,000 to Alzheimer’s research and hopes to raise that amount to $9 million by 2011. Rep. Alan Sayre of New Philadelphia has written a bill to be introduced to Ohio Congress regarding the Equitable Tax Exemption. All members are urged to contact their state representatives and ask that they co-sponsor this bill. The next state convention will be held in 2012 and the Wayne County Chapter will be involved in planning it.
